Obama campaign surrogate, former President Bill Clinton, said Friday that Barack Obama is in a tough re-election campaign fight only because of the ignorance of American voters. Clinton claims Americans don’t understand the economy, otherwise Obama would be winning this campaign running away.
“This shouldn’t be a race,” Clinton said. “The only reason it is, is because Americans are impatient on things not made before yesterday and they don’t understand why the economy is not totally hunky-dory again.”
Bill Clinton, who was the 42nd President of the United States, is the reigning rock star of the Democratic Party. Clinton has also been the most effective campaign surrogate the Obama campaign has had, to date. In many ways, Clinton has been more effective than Obama in this campaign. Clinton is also the figure Democrats most want Americans to associate with the Democratic Party.
Clinton’s position which asserts that the only reason Americans don’t support Obama is because we are impatient and ignorant is both absurd and insulting. However, the tactic of blaming people for what are failures of political leadership is a common practice of Democrats.
Democrats, including Obama, claim that the economic conditions in America which occurred during the Clinton administration were due to Democratic economic policies and Democratic stewardship of the economy. Neither is true. The robust, growing economy that occurred during the Clinton Administration occurred because of the explosion of the dot com economy and, interestingly enough, because capital gains tax rates were reduced, causing massive amounts of capital to flow into the economy. The lowering of the capital gains tax rate was advanced by the Republican Congress, led by Speaker Newt Gingrich as part of the Contract With America. It was not, as Democrats would have you believe, a result of the economic policies of the Democratic Party.
Clinton was campaigning on behalf of Obama in Green Bay, Wisconsin. when he told the assembled crowd of voters to stick with the president amid what he claimed are growing signs of economic recovery, asserting that ignorant Americans were the only obstacle to embracing Obama.
